Need More than a single access point?

Agere (formerly known as Lucent's microelectronics division) manufacturers and sells their WiFi 802.11b radio technology under their own ORiNOCO brand, as well as producing and selling it to other companies which incorporate it into their own products. Agere produces a significant number of the 802.11b radios in the world, though most of these are sold under other's brands.

ORiNOCO branded products generally use either the Silver (64-bit WEP), or Gold (128-bit encryption) 802.11b radio cards, as do some of the OEM products. However the various ORiNOCO products can be used in different manners, and have special software loaded in them to provide alternate functionality.

Due to how the 'normal' Apple Airport and ORiNOCO Residential gateway (and most off-the-shelf wired-to-wireless bridges) implement 802.11b there is a certain amount of overhead, which works fine in a small space though becomes less efficient over greater distances, with certain traffic patterns and when some clients cannot receive all of the other clients.

In the ORiNOCO lineup there are other feature-sets (protocols) that can be chosen to provide for a more efficient use of the bandwidth available on long links, or for a central station to communicate with remote stations that can't hear one-another. Also the ability to switch to a true PI routing between radios instead of just bridging wires-to-wireless, or wireless-to-wireless as most products are set-up. In all but the low-end (residential) boxes, it is possible to either add range-extending directional or omni-directional antennas that enable the radios to work over much longer distances than the built-in or rubber duck antennas.

Design & Deployment

It is possible to 'throw' a wireless network together and have it work. It is also possible to throw a lot of money into such a project and have it fail. Be it the creation of Wireless long distance links, LANs, WANs or ISPs - we will consult with you regarding your requirements, evaluate the terrain to be covered, make test measurements as required and design a solution. Calculations can be done to determine the efficiency long haul connections accounting for losses on wireless links due to blockages, distance, line losses to the antennae and gains of the Antennae.

So, when you need more than an airport, and have to hookup multiple buildings, a campus, or a neighborhood, then contact us, as an ORiNOCO Technical Support Specialist, BBRO can create a solution for you that will 'just work', with the functionality required, be it speed, distance, density, security or some combination there of.
